On May 19, Red Lobster confirmed in
a statement that the company has filed for
voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Florida. .
NBC reports that the largest seafood chain in
the United States said that filing for Chapter 11 will , "drive operational improvements, simplify the business
through a reduction in locations, and pursue a sale
of substantially all of its assets as a going concern.".
In a so-called stalking horse arrangement, Red Lobster
will sell the entire business to a new entity that is
completely owned and controlled by lenders. .
According to the company, lenders have
provided $100 million in financial commitments
to fund the chain's ongoing operations.

NBC reports that the company's bankruptcy
petition lists Red Lobster's assets at a value
between $1 billion and $10 billion.
The chain stressed that despite closing around
99 locations across the U.S., remaining locations
will remain open during the bankruptcy process.
The company added that it has been , "working with vendors to ensure
that operations are unaffected.".

The 56-year-old chain was founded back in 1968.

윤석열 대통령이 해병대원 특검법안에 대한 거부권을 행사했습니다.

대통령실은 법안을 단독 처리한 야당을 향해 "자기모순"이라고 비판했는데요.

자세한 내용은 취재기자 연결해 들어보죠.

네, 조금 전 대통령실은, 윤석열 대통령이 '해병대원 특검법안'에 대해 국회에 재의를 요구했다고 밝혔습니다.

윤 대통령이 국회에서 통과된 법안에 거부권을 행사한 것은 이번이 10번째입니다.

브리핑에 나선 대통령실 정진석 비서실장은 재의 요구권을 행사하는 이유에 대해 밝혔는데요.

정 실장은 먼저 "이번 법안은 특별검사 후보자의 추천권을 야당에만 독점적으로 부여해 대통령의 특검 임명권을 원천적으로 박탈하고 있다"며 "헌법 정신에 부합하지 않는다"고 말했습니다.

특검은 "수사기관의 수사가 미진하거나, 수사의 공정성·객관성이 의심되는 경우에 한해 도입하는 제도"라며 "현재 공수처에서 수사가 진행 중"이라고 강조했습니다.

지난 정부에서 공수처를 설치했던 민주당이 지금 공수처 수사를 믿지 못하겠다며 특검 도입을 주장하는 건 "자기모순이자 자기부정"이라고 비판했습니다.

정 실장은 '해병대원 사건 외압 의혹'은 야당이 고발한 사건이지만 야당이 수사 검사를 고르도록 되어 있다며, 수사의 공정성·중립성을 담보하지 못한다고 설명했습니다.

또한 법안에는 실시간 언론브리핑을 하도록 돼 있다며, 피의 사실 공표를 이 사건에 한하여 허용하고 아예 제도화하는 잘못된 효과를 가져올 수 있다고 우려했습니다.

'이선균 방지법'을 약속하며 피의사실 공표 문제를 개선하겠다고 밝혔던 민주당이 언론 브리핑 규정을 포함시킨 것은 자기모순이라고 꼬집기도 했습니다.
