교육부 "의대 증원 철회 불가"…커지는 집단유급 우려

늘어난 의과대학 모집 인원을 반영한 내년도 대학입학전형 시행계획이 이번 주 중 최종 확정될 전망입니다.

교육부는 각 대학에 학칙 개정 절차를 조속히 마무리해 줄 것을 당부하면서 의대생들에겐 학교에 돌아올 것을 재차 요청했습니다.

김예림 기자입니다.

교육부가 "약 1,500명 증원이 반영된 내년도 의과대학 정원은 확정되었다고 봐야 한다"며 철회 불가 입장을 밝혔습니다.

2심도 정부의 손을 들어준 만큼 입시 안정성 차원에서 남은 절차를 중지하긴 어렵다는 취지입니다.

한국대학교육협의회는 오는 24일 내년도 대학 입학전형 시행계획 변경사항을 심의·승인할 예정으로, 시행계획이 승인되면 대학은 이번 달 말 모집 요강을 확정해 공고합니다.

기한이 얼마 남지 않은 만큼 이주호 교육부 장관은 전국 40개 의대 총장들과의 간담회에서 조속한 학칙 개정을 당부했습니다.

"사법부에서도 의료개혁과 의대 정원 학대의 필요성은 공공복리 측면에서 인정하고 있는 만큼 개별 대학에서도 이를 반드시 반영하여 학칙을 개정해 주시기 바랍니다."

모집인원을 늘리기로 했던 전국 32개 의대 중 정원 확대를 반영해 학칙 개정을 완료한 학교는 현재 15개교….

이런 가운데 수업을 거부 중인 의대생들의 집단유급 우려는 커지고 있습니다.

현재 휴학계를 제출하거나 수업을 거부 중인 의대생은 전체의 약 97%에 달합니다.

정부는 만일 집단유급이 현실화하면 예과 1학년의 경우 증원 신입생과 유급생을 합쳐 7,500명이 함께 수업을 듣게 되는 등 특정 학년의 피해가 예상되는 만큼 조속히 수업에 복귀해 달라고 당부했습니다.

대학들이 집단 유급을 막기 위해 휴학 승인을 검토해달라는 목소리를 내고 있지만 교육부는 대규모 휴학 역시 집단 유급과 크게 다르지 않다는 입장입니다.
