On May 19, Red Lobster confirmed in
a statement that the company has filed for
voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Florida. .
NBC reports that the largest seafood chain in
the United States said that filing for Chapter 11 will , "drive operational improvements, simplify the business
through a reduction in locations, and pursue a sale
of substantially all of its assets as a going concern.".
In a so-called stalking horse arrangement, Red Lobster
will sell the entire business to a new entity that is
completely owned and controlled by lenders. .
According to the company, lenders have
provided $100 million in financial commitments
to fund the chain's ongoing operations.

NBC reports that the company's bankruptcy
petition lists Red Lobster's assets at a value
between $1 billion and $10 billion.
The chain stressed that despite closing around
99 locations across the U.S., remaining locations
will remain open during the bankruptcy process.
The company added that it has been , "working with vendors to ensure
that operations are unaffected.".

forward for Red Lobster. It allows

operational challenges and emerge

The 56-year-old chain was founded back in 1968.
By 2019, Red Lobster had expanded to include
nearly 700 locations across the country.
NBC reports that the company has struggled
under a growing debt load after failing to regain
a foothold following the COVID-19 pandemic.

오늘(21일)부터 나흘간 세계한인입양동포대회가 열립니다.

입양동포와 모국 간 교류 협력과 유대감 강화를 위해 마련된 행사인데요.

현장에 나가 있는 뉴스캐스터 연결해 보겠습니다.

네, 저는 2024 세계한인입양동포대회 현장에 나와 있습니다.

이번 행사는 입양 동포가 모국과 유대감을 형성하고 한인 네트워크를 구축하기 위해 열렸는데요.

먼저 이기철 재외동포청장과의 인터뷰 내용 들어보겠습니다.

"해외 입양 동포분들 중에 많은 분들이 특별한 사연이 있거나 직접적으로 한국을 체험할 기회가 많지 않은 분들이 계십니다. 그래서 재외동포청은 이번 대회를 통해서 무엇보다 내 옆에 "조국이 있구나"라는 생각을 갖게 해드리고 또 "나의 조국인 대한민국은 진정으로 자랑스러운 나라이구나"라는 사실을 알게 해 드림으로써 조국과 입양 동포 간 유대감 강화를 가장 우선적으로 생각하면서 이번 대회를 준비했습니다."

"제가 개회사에서 지난 70년간 한국에 정치, 경제 발전상에 대해서 말씀드렸는데요. 한국은 2차 세계대전 이후 독립한 80여 개국 중에서 민주주의와 경제 성장을 동시에 달성한 유일한 국가다. 이것은 전례가 없기 때문에 세계사적인 의미를 갖는다. 이런 말씀을 드렸습니다. 이러한 사실은 한국이 내 나라여서가 아니라 객관적으로 보더라도 진정으로 자긍심을 가질만한 나라라는 그런 사실입니다. 이러한 사실로써 재외동포들이 정체성을 더 갖게 되고 한국의 발전상을 외국 교과서에 수록하는 프로젝트를 함께 하자고 입양동포 여러분들께 말씀드렸습니다. 입양 동포 여러분들은 이러한 한국의 발전상에 대해서 자긍심을 갖게 되신 것 같았고요. 큰 박수를 받았습니다. 이 사업에 대해서 동참하실 것으로 기대합니다."

입양 동포 110명이 참여하는 2024 세계한인입양동포대회는 오는 24일까지 진행됩니다.

오늘은 입양 동포들 마음속, 모국에 대한 생각을 공유하는 토크콘서트와 개회식, 동포청장의 개회사 등이 열렸습니다.

앞으로 참가자들은 한국의 발전상을 확인할 수 있는 삼성이노베이션뮤지엄과, 문화를 체험할 수 있는 한국민속촌을 방문하고요.

법무부 등 유관 기관에서는 재외동포 비자나 친족 찾기 등 입양 동포들을 위한 각종 정보를 제공합니다.

국가별, 지역별로 나누어 거주국과 모국의 상호 발전 및 네트워킹 강화 방안에 대해 논의하는 토론장도 열리고요.

세계한인입양동포로서 거주국과 모국의 공동 발전 및 네트워킹 강화 기여 방안을 논의하고 이행문에 반영한 뒤 폐회식을 끝으로 다음 만남을 기약합니다.

해외 직구에서 KC 인증 의무화 방침을 밝혔다가 따가운 여론의 역풍을 맞았던 정부가 사실상 기존 방침을 철회하고 새 보완 대책을 내놨습니다.

각 부처가 해외 직구 제품별로 분담해 직접 안전성 검사를 진행한 뒤, 이를 통과하지 못한 제품에 대해서만 수입을 금지하기로 한 겁니다.

김대겸 기자의 보도입니다.

해외 직구 80개 품목에서 국가인증통합마크인 KC 인증을 의무화하겠다던 정부 구상은 발표 하루 만에 여론의 따가운 질책을 받았습니다.

설익은 대책 발표로 혼란을 초래한 건 물론 소비자 선택권을 과도하게 제한하려 했다는 겁니다.

[성태윤 / 대통령실 정책실장(어제) : 저렴한 제품을 구매하기 위해 애쓰시는 국민에게 불편을 초래한다는 점을 충분히 고려하지 못한 부분입니다. 이에 대해 송구합니다.]

대통령실까지 나서 사과한 끝에 정부의 정책 재정비 윤곽이 일부 드러났습니다.

논란이 된 KC 인증 의무화는 사실상 폐지하되 유해성 우려가 큰 80개 품목을 중심으로 각 부처가 제품을 선별적으로 구매한 뒤 안전성 검사를 직접 진행하기로 한 겁니다.

어린이 제품과 전기·생활용품은 산업통상자원부가 맡고 생활화학제품은 환경부, 의약외품은 식약처가 안전성 검사를 의뢰한 뒤 문제가 확인되면 판매 중지를 요청하고 소비자에게 알리는 방식입니다.

현재는 관세청과 서울시 등 일부 기관만 하는 검사를 각 정부 부처로 확대해 체계적 관리를 할 수 있게끔 개선하겠다는 겁니다.

정부는 이 밖에 어린이·노약자 관련 직구 상품에 대해 다음 달부터 위해성 여부 등을 집중점검 하겠다는 애초 발표 내용은 그대로 진행하기로 했습니다.

또, 해외 플랫폼의 국내 대리인 지정과 '소비자 24' 사이트를 통한 위해 물품 정보 제공 등도 별다른 문제 제기가 없었던 만큼 그대로 이행될 거로 예상됩니다.

이번 혼란이 결국 섣부른 발표 때문이라는 지적이 잇따르면서 정책 취지를 살리기 위한 정부의 고심이 계속되고 있습니다.

김호중, 음주운전 시인 뒤 첫 조사...음주량 등 집중 추궁 / YTN

음주 뺑소니 혐의를 받는 가수 김호중 씨가 음주운전을 시인한 지 이틀 만에 경찰에 출석했습니다.

취재진을 피해 비공개로 출석했는데, 취재기자 연결해 상황 들어보겠습니다. 유서현 기자!

네 서울 강남경찰서입니다.


경찰 수사 상황 전해주시죠.

네, 김 씨에 대한 조사는 5시간 넘게 진행되고 있습니다.

김 씨는 오후 2시쯤 출석했는데요.

취재진이 기다리는 이곳 1층 로비를 피해, 차량을 탄 채로 지하주차장으로 들어가면서 출석 모습이 언론에 공개되진 않았습니다.

김 씨는 지난 9일 서울 신사동에서 반대편 차로에 있는 택시를 들이받은 뒤 도주한 혐의를 받습니다.

사고 뒤 김 씨는 매니저와 옷을 바꿔입는 등 운전자 바꿔치기를 시도했다가, 결국 사고 17시간 만에 스스로 경찰서를 찾아 뺑소니 사실을 실토했습니다.

그동안 음주 운전은 아니었다고 주장해왔다가, 사고 전 유흥주점에 들른 모습이 포착되는 등 술을 마신 정황들이 속속 드러나자 그제(19일) 음주 사실을 시인했습니다.

다만 김 씨가 사고 다음 날 뒤늦게 경찰에 출석해 혈중알코올농도 측정에서 음주가 감지되지 않아, 음주운전 혐의를 입증할 직접 증거는 없는 상황인데요,

이에 따라 경찰은 오늘 조사에서 사고 전후 김 씨가 얼만큼의 술을 먹었는지 등 정확한 음주량과 시간 등을 확인해 뺑소니 사고와 인과관계를 따지는 데 주력하는 것으로 전해졌습니다.

김 씨와 소속사 관계자들이 사고를 은폐하려고 시도한 정황도 속속 드러나고 있는데요,

경찰이 김 씨 소속사를 압수 수색했지만 당일 김 씨가 탑승했던 차량 3대의 블랙박스는 모두 사라진 상태였습니다.

경찰은 조만간 사고 뒤 허위 진술한 매니저를 비롯해 차량 블랙박스 메모리를 제거한 소속사 관계자 등도 불러 조사할 방침입니다.
